Wildcats to stress focus, discipline on road tripArizona Daily Star

As the Arizona Wildcats women's basketball team embarks on its first Pac-10 road trip of the season, the coaching staff's message to the players remains relatively the same.
That is, play hard for the entire game.
The Wildcats played aggressively in sequences, including a late 17-0 run, in their 70-61 loss to No. 11 Stanford on Sunday.
"We just have to stay focused and stay disciplined," UA coach Niya Butts said. "We just have to learn how to play for 40 minutes."
Arizona (7-6, 0-2) will face Oregon (4-8, 1-1) today and Oregon State (9-3, 0-2) on Saturday.
The Wildcats have not won a game in Eugene since 2004. The Ducks have played a treacherous schedule, dropping games to No. 22 Georgia Tech and No. 6 Baylor before winning at UCLA last weekend.
"We're going to try to play Arizona defense on everybody and just contain them," Butts said. "We have to know where (guard Taylor Lilley) is at all times, always have a hand in her face and give her no uncontested shots."
On Saturday, the Wildcats will make their first trip to Corvallis since last season, when all but two of Arizona's players fouled out in a 94-88 double-overtime loss to the Beavers. Post players Beatrice Bofia and Sarah Hays were the only UA players left in the game.
"I can certainly let you know, along with everyone else, we don't plan on that happening again," said Butts, who is in her first year at Arizona. "We plan on finishing the game with five."
Asked if she had ever seen such a scenario before, Butts said, "You could say you've heard of it, but I don't know if I've ever seen it. I'm hoping to never see it, when I'm coaching, anyway. I think we'll be OK."
Injuries have limited the Wildcats to 10 available players, and four starters rank among Pac-10 leaders in minutes played.
To guard against fatigue, Butts said practice is about an hour or 1 1/2 hours a day between the Pac-10 games.
Arizona is 1-2 on the road, with a victory at Boise State last month, but 2-1 on neutral courts this season.
"Winning at Boise State, we had so much energy," sophomore forward Ify Ibekwe said. "We'll bring the same energy when we go to Oregon and Oregon State."
Transfer expected to join Wildcats next season
Former Chandler Hamilton High School guard Brianna Brown has been in contact with the UA coaching staff about transferring to the team, said her high school coach, Jeff Kain.
Brown transferred from Baylor, where she did not play a game, because she developed homesickness, Kain said.
The freshman would be eligible to play for Arizona next season, Kain said, and is currently waiting for paperwork to be finalized for the transfer to occur. She watched a UA practice on Tuesday.
As a first-team all-state selection, Brown averaged 17 points, 7.7 rebounds, 5 assists and 3.7 steals for Hamilton.
