UA's Thomas to display skills in all-star game

staff and wire reports
Tucson, Arizona | Published: 01.06.2009
Arizona Wildcats wide receiver Mike Thomas has accepted an invitation to play in the East-West Shrine Game, which will be played Jan. 17 in Houston.
Thomas will play for the West team, which will be coached by former Alabama and Arizona Cardinals coach Gene Stallings.
Arizona has sent at least one player to the East-West Shrine Game every year since 1995. Linebacker Spencer Larsen and defensive tackle Lionel Dotson took part in last year's game; Larsen was named the game's defensive most valuable player.
Thomas caught a team-best 74 passes for 825 yards and four touchdowns as a UA senior. He set the Pac-10's career receptions record in last month's Las Vegas Bowl win over BYU.
So far, Thomas is the only Wildcat to accept an invitation to play in a postseason all-star game.

Aside from a 5-18 stint as head coach at Idaho in 2004-05, Holt has been on the staff at USC since 2001.
