Goalie Boddy shuts down Rams, helps Icecats finally win at homeSpecial to the Arizona Daily Star

Thanks to clutch goaltending and a pair of goals by Cody Morin, the Arizona Icecats took out their frustrations of a winless homestand on Colorado State on Friday night, winning 4-2 at Tucson Convention Center.
The win snapped a four-game losing streak.
"The guys knew it was a must-win situation," said Icecats coach Leo Golembiewski. "It's been a frustrating four-game homestand so far, and they played with a lot of heart tonight."
Arizona (3-8) gave up a combined 15 goals in each of its last two Friday contests, but against the Rams the Icecats jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first period. They rode the play of goaltender Nick Boddy the rest of the way.
Freshman Brady Lefferts gave the Icecats a 1-0 lead just over five minutes into the game, and Austin Capobianco made it 2-0 with a slap shot near the blue line with 5:56 left in the first.
The Rams responded with an increased level of physical play in the final two periods, using their size and strength to get back into the contest.
"I told my teammates that they were going to be coming at us really hard and to keep your head up the entire time," Morin said. "They know how to hit hard."
It looked as though Colorado State grabbed the momentum midway through the second period. A pair of goals within 15 seconds of each other tied the contest, but it was the last time the Rams found the net.
Boddy came up with numerous saves throughout the final period, including a stretch where Colorado State held a 5-on-3 advantage for two minutes. Golembiewski and Morin said Boddy was the reason Arizona managed to come away victorious.
"There are times when the other team can't score," Golembiewski said. "I don't (care) if it's a 5-on-3 for two minutes — you can't give up a goal. He was the difference tonight. All he talked about was getting the 'W'."
Morin gave Arizona a 3-2 lead with five minutes remaining in the second period and added an empty-net goal with six seconds remaining in the contest.
After the game, Golembiewski dedicated the victory to former Arizona player and Icecats Hall of Fame member Bill Sloan, who is currently in the hospital.
The Icecats will host Colorado State tonight at 7:30.
