• How the game was won: Kevin Riley threw a 53-yard touchdown pass to Nyan Boateng on a flea-flicker with tailback Jahvid Best, and Mike Mohamed returned an interception 19 yards for a score 19 seconds later to blow open a close game in the fourth quarter.
• Star of the game: Riley passed for 153 yards and two TDs in his return to the starting lineup after losing the job to Nate Longshore for two games. Both scoring passes came in the fourth quarter.

• How the game was won: The Notre Dame defense did not allow winless Washington to cross midfield until six minutes remained in the game. The Huskies (0-7) had just 51 total yards on 35 plays entering the fourth quarter.
• Star of the game: Fighting Irish junior James Aldridge ran for 84 yards and a career-high two touchdowns, both of which came in the second half.
• Key stats: After a poor start, Notre Dame quarterback Jimmy Clausen settled down to complete 14 of 26 passes for 201 yards with a TD and an interception.
