PRATTVILLE, Ala. — Winless since May, top-ranked Lorena Ochoa shot a 3-under 69 Saturday to earn a share of the third-round lead in the Navistar Classic.
A former Arizona Wildcats standout, Ochoa matched Louise Friberg (65) at 13-under 203.
"It was a little bit tougher today for me," Ochoa said. "I didn't feel a great rhythm with my irons, with my swing. So I was struggling a little bit, but I was able to finish under par and I think that's always good."
Ochoa has four straight top-seven finishes, but is winless in seven starts. She opened the year with six wins in nine events, including four straight.
"What matters is to be in a good position for tomorrow, to be in the last group and to have a chance to win the tournament," Ochoa said.
After opening with consecutive 67s, Ochoa had five birdies and two bogeys in the third round on the links-style Senator Course, part of the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail's Capitol Hill complex.
Friberg had seven birdies in her bogey-free round.
LPGA Championship winner Yani Tseng (68), Christina Kim (69), Song-Hee Kim (69), Michele Redman (70) and second-round leader Janice Moodie (67) were 11 under par.
PGA Tour
ATLANTA — Sergio Garcia enjoyed an amazing turnaround Saturday against Anthony Kim in the Tour Championship.
Garcia shot a 3-under 67 to go from a three-shot deficit on the front nine to a three-shot lead through 54 holes, leaving him poised to become only the third player to capture The Players Championship and the Tour Championship in the same year.
Garcia was at 8-under 202 and will play in the final pairing today with Phil Mickelson, who made some long par putts and just enough birdies for a 69, giving him a chance to end his year on a strong note.
Six days after Kim crushed Garcia in the leadoff singles match at the Ryder Cup, the 23-year-old American looked as if he would get the best of Garcia again with six straight one-putt greens.
But Kim hit only four fairways, and his wildness caught up with him. Kim wound up with a 72 and was three shots back.
Garcia birdied the par-5 ninth to catch Kim, and pulled away with a birdie on the par-5 15th.
Champions Tour
CARY, N.C. — Bruce Fleisher moved into position for his first Champions Tour victory in four years Saturday by shooting a 6-under 66 take a one-stroke lead into the final round of the SAS Championship.
Fleisher had a 10-under 134 total on the Prestonwood Country Club course. He won the 2004 Royal Caribbean Classic and Bruno's Memorial Classic for the last of his 18 Champions Tour victories.
Tom Kite (66) and Eduardo Romero (67) were tied for second. Mark McNulty (63) and John Cook (66) were another stroke back at 8 under, and Tucsonan Don Pooley (69), Scott Hoch (66) and Chip Beck (69) were 7 under.
European Tour
SUTTON COLDFIELD, England — Michael Campbell, Mikael Lundberg and Alejandro Canizares were tied for the lead at 7 under in the British Masters when darkness forced the suspension of third-round play.
Campbell and Lundberg had four holes to play; Canizares had eight. Lee Westwood was 6 under with eight holes to go.
