Regents likely to OK Busch, Butts dealsstaff and wire reports
Tucson, Arizona | Published: 04.24.2008
Two UA coaches' contracts are likely to be approved today at the Board of Regents meeting.
Arizona Wildcats' swim coach Frank Busch should receive a contract extension through 2011 and a raise of almost $14,000. His $120,000 a year salary comes on the heels of guiding the women's and men's teams to NCAA championships last month.
The contract of new women's basketball coach Niya Butts has a five-year deal worth $200,000 a year, plus incentives. The contract expires in June 2013.
Among the incentives included in the first-time head coach's contract are a $5,000 bonus for an NCAA tournament berth, $15,000 for a Pac-10 championship or $5,000 for a Pac-10 tournament title. A 25-win season would net $10,000, and if the average paid attendance for home games is between 2,001-3,000 people, she will earn $2,500.

Cowboys spokesman Rich Dalrymple confirmed the teams had an agreement, but no terms had been filed with the NFL office, which already had closed for the day.
● All-Pro defensive end Jared Allen was traded from Kansas City to Minnesota in a blockbuster deal. The Chiefs get the Vikings' first-round pick, No. 17 overall, and both of Minnesota's third-round selections.

Chalmers declares, could return
LAWRENCE, Kan. — Kansas star Mario Chalmers declared himself eligible for the NBA draft on Wednesday, deciding not to sign with an agent to leave open the possibility of a return to the national champions.
The junior guard says he'll come out only if it looks like he'll be picked in the first round. If not — he's currently projected to go between pick Nos. 25-35 — Chalmers will return to Kansas.
● All-America point guard D.J. Augustin of Texas also declared for the NBA draft.
● The U.S. synchronized swimming championships will be held at the University of Arizona next month. More than 150 athletes will compete in duet, solo and team events at the UA Recreation Center pool on May 1-3. Tickets are available at the event and run from $5 to $10.
