Former UA assistant coach Darrell Wyatt was named the offensive coordinator at Southern Mississippi, nearly two weeks after leaving Tucson for a job he would only characterize as a step up.
Wyatt will also coach wide receivers under new coach Larry Fedora, according to a news release issued by the Eagles' athletic department.
Wyatt's departure has been expected since Dec.21, when he told recruits he was becoming an offensive coordinator at a major school.
Two days later, Wyatt confirmed his departure to the Star but said he did not expect a formal announcement for at least a week. Wyatt said he hoped to eventually become a head coach.
Wyatt has been an offensive coordinator once before, albeit briefly. He served as Kansas' offensive coordinator in Spring 2001 but left to become Oklahoma State's passing-game coordinator before he could coach a game.
Wyatt, 41, was hired by UA coach Mike Stoops last winter to help install the new Air Zona offense.
● Former UA golfer Laura Myerscough was hired Thursday as an assistant coach for the UA women's team.
Myerscough, 27, who played for the Wildcats from 1998 to 2003, spent the previous five seasons playing professionally on the LPGA Tour, the Futures Tour and the West Coast Ladies Golf Tour. Her best season was 2004, when she finished 147th on the LPGA Tour money list.
Myerscough ranked eighth on the 2003 Futures Tour with a 72.1 stroke average with three top-10 finishes.
● UA assistant swimming coach Rick DeMont was named to the Bay Area Hall of Fame along with an impressive class of inductees who will be feted in April.
Football greats Roger Craig, Ray Guy and Burl Toler, record-breaking swimmer DeMont and, under a new "Distinguished Achievement" category, former 49ers owner Eddie DeBartolo Jr., have been elected to the Bay Area Sports Hall of Fame.
During his swimming career in the 1970s, the San Rafael-born DeMont established world records in the 1,500-meter freestyle, the 400 and the 4x100 freestyle relay. He won the 400 freestyle in the 1972 Olympics.
In 1973, DeMont won the 400 event in the World Championships in Belgrade, Yugoslavia, was the first man to swim the 400 free in less than four minutes and was voted Swimmer of the Year.
