Freshman guard Laval Lucas-Perry has applied to transfer from the Arizona basketball program, his mother said today.
Patricia Lucas-Perry said her son liked both absent coach Lute Olson and interim coach Kevin O’Neill but felt he would be better off elsewhere. Lucas-Perry played in only five of the Wildcats’ first eight games, including a four-minute stint on Saturday at Illinois.
“He loves coach O’Neill. He loves Lute,” Patricia Lucas-Perry said. “So there was nothing wrong with the program. Arizona has a top-notch program. He just felt he might have better options elsewhere.”
Patricia Lucas-Perry said she was not sure where her son would consider transferring to. Lucas-Perry, an all-state high school football and basketball player in Michigan, has said he was heavily recruited by Big Ten schools.
Following Saturday’s game, Lucas-Perry expressed a need for patience. He has played a total of 49 minutes over five games.
“It’s going to take some time,” he said.
