MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. — Step aside Annika Sorenstam. Lorena Ochoa showed who's the LPGA Tour's true star attraction at the Ginn Tribute.
Ochoa, a former Wildcat All-American, shot a 5-under 67 Friday to move to 9 under through two rounds, three shots ahead of Angela Park (72) and four better than Paula Creamer (71).
The world's No. 1 player and already a two-time tour winner this season, Ochoa took control at RiverTowne Country Club with her bogey-free round.
Ochoa carded only one score higher than a 4, a par on the par-5 ninth hole, and continued her stellar run with her sixth consecutive round under 70.
PGA Tour
DUBLIN, Ohio — Adam Scott flirted with perfection Friday at Muirfield Village, missing four putts inside 12 feet — and still carding a 10-under 62.
It gave him a one-shot lead over Rod Pampling, and he hopes it will be enough to shake off the gremlins that have been holding him back since his victory in Houston two months ago.
Scott and caddie Tony Navarro had a spirited talk before the round.
"We just told each other what we thought about what's going on out there, a bit of a heart-to-heart," Scott said.
Scott was at 12-under-par 132 after two rounds. Pampling finished with a 68.
Champions Tour
DESTIN, Fla. — Sahuarita resident Tom Purtzer and Eduardo Romero took advantage of perfect scoring conditions in the Boeing Championship by matching the course record with bogey-free 9-under 62s to share the first-round lead.
Jim Thorpe and Jay Haas opened with 64s, and nine players had 65s on the Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort's Raven Golf Club course.
European Tour
NEWPORT, Wales — Mads Vibe-Hastrup shot a 6-under 63 to take a one-stroke lead halfway through the Wales Open. Vibe-Hastrup had an 8-under 130 total. Alastair Forsyth (65), Steven O'Hara (66) and Brett Rumford (66) were tied for second.
