Say it with us now.
Evv-en-sen Ber-nard.
Yvenson Bernard, Oregon State's star tailback, might be the best Pac-10 football player you've never heard of.
The junior from Bayton Beach, Fla., is second in the conference in rushing and fourth in all-purpose yards.
He has more touchdowns (7) than all three of Arizona's running backs combined (5).
Not that Bernard cares much.
The only number he wants to talk about is wins, of which the Beavers have just three heading into Saturday's game at Arizona Stadium.
"Listen, we're not getting as many wins as I want," he said.
"I don't think those other stats are so great, to be honest with you. I'm not surprised that I've got them. I've been getting the ball a lot."
Bernard almost certainly will get his share of touches when the Beavers hit Tucson on Saturday afternoon for a game with Arizona (3-4 overall, 1-3 in the Pac-10).
He's already rushed the ball 129 times for 639 yards in six games.
"He has really come on to be a big player in this conference," UA coach Mike Stoops said. "He's always a threat."
Even if Bernard does not care about the numbers, here's how the junior stacks up:
192
Bernard's rushing total against Arizona last year. The Wildcats won the game 29-27.
120.1
Bernard's rushing yards per game in 2005, ninth in the NCAA and fourth in the Pac-10.
3-0 Oregon State's record this season when Bernard rushes for 100 or more yards. He is averaging 128.3 yards per game in three wins and 84.7 yards in three losses.
1,321 Bernard's total rushing yards in 2005. His season would have ranked third on Arizona's career list.
