Kitt Peak National Observatory will reopen to the public at 9 a.m. Sunday.
The peak was closed as firefighters battled the Alambre Fire, which started Saturday in the Baoquivari Mountains about 45 miles southwest of Tucson and has burned 7,267 acres.
The blaze burned close to the observatory, but the telescopes were never in great danger, officials said.
The peak will be opened for observation Friday night, said observatory spokesman Doug Isbell.
The Alambre Fire was 80 percent contained Wednesday night, and fire officials expected full containment by Saturday night, said Heidi Schewel, a spokeswoman for the Coronado National Forest.
Cooler, more humid and less windy weather allowed crews to work closer to the fire Wednesday, officials said.
It didn't rain, but temperatures in the mid-90s and higher humidity kept the flames at manageable height.
