In the mood for something silly? Need a gag gift for a holiday party? Or do you just need a surprise? Then this could be the contest for you.
Lots of corporations and promoters send us promotional items trying to entice us to write about their product, service, movie, TV show - oh, you get the drift. We can't keep any of the items sent to us (we have this ethics thing), but we can give them to you. We have "Astrojax," which is sort of a cross between juggling balls and a yo-yo; "Elf" gingerbread cookie mix and a cookie cutter; a gift box from Planters; and a closet full of other giveaways.
To get one of these items out of our closet and into yours, send us the first name of "The Nutcracker" composer Tchaikovsky (Related story, Page 7) with your name, address and daytime phone number, and you'll be entered into the random drawing. Children must have permission from a parent or guardian to enter and include a daytime phone number for a parent or guardian.

Last week's winners are Ted Louis Glenn, John Harman and Melba Vickery. Some of the handy-around-the-house uses for a finished-reading-it newspaper were: to pick up the cactus pads after trimming cacti; to pack away the holiday dishes and other treasured items; to keep frozen food insulated; to spread on the counter, table or floor as protection from messy projects such as pumpkin carving, oven cleaning, trimming hair, painting and kids' arts and crafts; to clean a grill; to eliminate odors in a trash can, a suitcase, a wooden canister or wooden chest; to clean faucet fixtures; to shred and use as cat litter; to train puppies; to line whelping boxes; and to line bird cages, especially in "left-winged" or "right-winged" aviaries.
