PAC-10 FOOTBALL THIS WEEK

Tucson, Arizona | Published: 10.15.2008
HARRIS!
The first Bowl Championship Series rankings will be announced after Saturday's games. Judging by the Harris Interactive poll — which is used to help determine the BCS poll — the Pac-10 has one horse in the race.
Only two conference teams are in the Harris Top 25 — No. 5 USC and No. 24 Cal. Oregon is the only other Pac-10 team to receive votes.
USC coach Pete Carroll said he figures the top teams in the country will all have losses by the end of the season. If that holds true, it could be good news for the Trojans.
"You can drop a game," Carroll said. "I think it's really really hard and unusual for a team to be undefeated."
Pac-10 Power Rankings
1. USC (4-1, 2-1) — Joe Mc-Knight ran for 143 yards against ASU. Coach Pete Carroll said he wasn't sure whether McKnight, who wore a boot Monday because of an injured toe, would be able to play against the Cougars.
2. Oregon (5-2, 3-1)
3. Cal (4-1, 2-0)
4. Oregon State (3-3, 2-1) The Beavers scored 66 points against Washington State, their most since 67 against Northern Illinois in 1996.
5. Stanford (4-3, 3-1) QB Tavita Pritchard, who suffered a mild concussion against Arizona, went through noncontact drills Tuesday and is "likely" to play Saturday, coach Jim Harbaugh said.
6. Arizona (4-2, 2-1)
7. Arizona State (2-4, 1-2) QB Rudy Carpenter played sparingly at USC after injuring his left ankle the week before. He won't practice until Sunday because of a bye week, but coach Dennis Erickson said he's "better probably than he was last week."
8. UCLA (2-4, 1-2) After committing 10 turnovers in four games, the Bruins have just one in the past two meetings.
9. Washington (0-5, 0-3)
10. Washington State (1-6, 0-4) QB Marshall Lobbestael will miss the rest of the season because of tears in the MCL and ACL in his left knee.
Quotable
"If somebody could have asked me, 'You can have anything you wanted in the world, what would it be?' To be able to raise this daughter is the best thing I could have hoped for."

QB BATTLE
Oregon quarterback Jeremiah Masoli ran for 170 yards Saturday against UCLA — the third-highest total in the conference this season — but still isn't guaranteed the starting job when the Ducks come off their bye to take on Arizona State.
Justin Roper, who partially tore a ligament in his left knee during Week 3 against Purdue, "is going to be approaching 100 percent healthy," coach Mike Bellotti said. The two will split snaps in practice this week.
"It will be open competition," Bellotti said.
FIGHT!
During an injury delay for UCLA wide receiver Terrence Austin on Saturday, a fight broke out between two fans at Autzen Stadium. The fans then tumbled out of the stands and onto the field.
One fan was injured and tended to by medical personnel, while another ambulance tended to Austin. He was diagnosed with a strained neck and mild concussion, and might not play this weekend.
UCLA coach Rick Neuheisel called the fight "kinda spooky."
"It was two Oregon fans," Neuheisel stressed. "Two Oregon fans apparently weren't agreeing on something."
RUBBING IT IN?
Leading 59-13 Saturday, Oregon State threw a 39-yard touchdown pass that was criticized by Washington State players as classless.
Tuesday, Beavers coach Mike Riley said "there was obviously no disrespect" from his team in the play. In fact, he said, quarterback Sean Canfield noticed that the Cougars did not have a safety in the middle of the field, and reacted accordingly.
"He did what he was trained to do and threw a touchdown pass," Riley said.
