Cats stay loose by dancing 'like idiots'Arizona Daily Star

Between three-hour practices, lifting weights and devouring scouting reports, Arizona Wildcats junior Jacy Norton and her teammates stay loose by immersing themselves in pop culture.
The UA volleyball team bonds over such interests as the Rihanna jam "Disturbia," the ABC medical comedy-drama "Grey's Anatomy" and dancing in the locker room.
Norton, a Louisville, Ky., native and middle blocker, leads the team with 1.20 blocks per set. She recently discussed her must-haves for music, TV and pre-match rituals.
Arizona (8-1) plays UC-Riverside today and host Loyola Marymount on Saturday in Los Angeles. The two matches replace the Wildcats' three matches at the University of Houston tournament, which was canceled because of damage caused by Hurricane Ike.
Favorite movie
After summer camps and workouts, the team watched "Finding Nemo," the animated movie about a clown fish searching for his son, "probably 15 times in a row" in the locker room, Norton said. "None of us had seen it in a long time because it came out a few years ago. I love it. It's really cute."
Norton also considers herself a fan of funny man Ben Stiller, listing "Zoolander" among her favorites.
Favorite class
Norton said the UA's family studies classes are popular among female students. As a psychology major, Norton's favorite class is abnormal psychology. "(It's about) different psychological disorders that happen in the brain, schizophrenia to depression to anxiety to multiple-personality disorder."
Pre-match ritual
To stay relaxed before matches, Norton said she and her teammates "dance in the locker room like idiots" to a rap mix.
Before every match, the players also pray and turn to a board that has all of the team's opponents listed on paper squares. A player pulls down a square naming the current opponent and reads the inspirational quote written on the back. "It's all motivation, 'No regrets, leave it all on the court,' " Norton said.
Favorite TV shows
Some of Norton's teammates get together to watch "Grey's Anatomy," the dramedy about friends who work at a Seattle hospital. "I also like 'Scrubs.' It's really funny, lighthearted," Norton said. "I like 'Desperate Housewives' because my mom and I used to watch it when I lived at home, so it was our Sunday night."
