Wildcats end game with two on courtArizona daily star
Tucson, Arizona | Published: 01.04.2008
It really was a two-man game for the UA women's basketball team in the final moments of Thursday night's game in Corvallis, Ore.
The UA women's basketball team finished its double-overtime loss with just two players on the court against host Oregon State.
The Wildcats (6-8, 0-3 Pac-10) suited up just six players, watched their 16-point second-half lead disappear and had four players foul out before losing 94-88 at Gill Coliseum.
Senior Ashley Whisonant led Arizona with a career-high 32 points.
UA sophomores Rhaya and Rheya Neabors were held out of the game. Rhaya missed because of personal reasons, and Rheya Neabors missed because of academic responsibilities. Also, freshman Ify Ibekwe missed her fifth straight game and senior Jessica Arnold missed her seventh straight because of injuries.
After building up a 56-40 lead with 11:14 left in regulation, Arizona watched two players — Marie McGee with 1:46 left and Tasha Dickey with 1:29 remaining — foul out as OSU rallied for a 65-65 tie.
In the first overtime, the Cats managed to build up a six-point lead with four players only to have the Beavers force another overtime.
In the second overtime, the Wildcats lost Amina Njonkou to fouls with 2:29 left, and then Whisonant picked up her fifth with 1:01 remaining, leaving only Beatrice Bofia and Sarah Hays on the court for the UA.
