UA receives commitment from safety

The UA football team has added a last-minute commitment. Joseph Perkins, a 6-foot-2-inch, 192-pound free safety from El Camino (Calif.) College, faxed his national letter-of-intent to the UA football offices over the weekend. He will be eligible to play this fall as a sophomore. "It's really exciting to have all the pressure over with," Perkins told the Rivals.com recruiting service. Perkins was named a member of the All-Mission Conference team after registering 47 tackles and seven interceptions as a freshman at El Camino. Perkins is a cousin of UA safety Nate Ness, who also attended El Camino, and was a junior-college teammate of incoming linebacker Vuna Tuihalamaka.
