Job opportunity just went 'poof'

° "Education: Passed out from engineering college."
° "Skills: I am a good poofreader."
° "Education: One percent complete."
Here's an item from a letter written in response to an employment offer:
"I have also been offered a job at another company. If I don't want it, I'll take your job."
I rather like my job, thank you.
Here's the first paragraph from a cover letter that was four single-spaced pages:
"Please excuse the personal nature of the above addressee and the crude form of this letter written in great haste. I felt it absolutely necessary to supplement the attached resume with important information about myself that you would not know from reading the resume. If I had more free time, I would have been able to think out this letter better and have it put me in the best possible light, but I don't have much time and I wanted to get it to you as quickly as possible."
Sounds like you have plenty of free time.
Here are some more gems from cover letters:
° "If you hire me I will work hardly for you."
° "I am fun, I am organized, and I am a dependable and conscientious worker who you would be crazy to pass up! I can work well in a team setting or solo - whatever your office needs, I can supply. If it's not immoral, unethical or illegal - I'm in!"
