• How the game was won: The Golden Bears scored 27 straight points in the second half and won the 111th Big Game. It was also the sixth victory for head coach Jeff Tedford in seven meetings against his team's Bay Area archrival. Stanford (5-7, 4-5) failed to qualify for a bowl game.
• Star of the game: Jahvid Best rushed for 201 yards and scored three touchdowns for the Bears, all in the second half.
• Key stats: Cal quarterback Kevin Riley completed just 7 of 11 passes for 101 yards, but three went for touchdowns; Stanford's Toby Gerhart rushed for 103 yards and topped the 1,000-yard mark for the season.
