Wildcats wrap up softball tournament with two shutout victoriesstaff and wire reports

The Arizona Wildcats softball team cruised to a pair of wins Sunday on the final day of the Arizona Fall Classic at Hillenbrand Stadium.
The Wildcats beat Cypress College 13-0 in five innings before defeating Pima College 8-0 in six innings to complete the sweep.
In the opener, Arizona scored at least two runs in every inning and nine Wildcats drove in runs.
UA starter Lindsey Sisk gave up just one hit in pitching a shutout.
Jenae Leles, Sam Banister, K'Lee Arredondo and Victoria Kemp each had an RBI in the first inning as Arizona jumped out to a 4-0 lead.
In the second game, Banister hit a first-inning grand slam to give the Cats another 4-0 first-inning lead.

Cheruiyot wins marathon
CHICAGO — Kenya's Evans Cheruiyot won his second marathon in two tries, pulling away late from countryman David Mandago before finishing in 2 hours 6 minutes 25 seconds to win the Chicago Marathon on a warm Sunday morning.
A winner at Milan in December, the 26-year-old Cheruiyot grabbed the lead in the 24th mile and was all alone as he crossed the finish line for his first major marathon victory. Mandago clocked in at 2:07:37 in his first major marathon.
Russia's Lidiya Grigoryeva, the 2007 Boston Marathon champion, breezed to her second major victory, clocking in at 2:27:17 and finishing more than two minutes ahead of runner-up Alevtina Biktimirova of Russia (2:29:32).

Alonso takes race in Japan
OMAYA, Japan — Renault's Fernando Alonso won the Japanese Grand Prix on Sunday in a race that featured a collision between championship rivals Lewis Hamilton and Felipe Massa on the second lap.
Both leading drivers received pit drive-through penalties, and while Ferrari's Massa recovered to finish eighth and earn one championship point near the end of the race, McLaren's Hamilton finished out of the points in 12th.
Hamilton's championship lead was cut to six points with two races remaining this season.

Skater Nam retires at 23
Naomi Nari Nam, who went from 13-year-old national medalist in singles to a medalist in pairs, has retired from competitive figure skating. The 23-year-old Nam won the bronze medal at the 2007 national championships with partner Themistocles Leftheris. A decade earlier, she was the silver medalist in singles behind Michelle Kwan.
● The Arizona Icecats club hockey team lost 4-2 to No. 4 Delaware on Sunday in their final game of the ACHA Showcase in West Chester, Pa.
● The Pima College football team lost 41-0 to No. 20 Phoenix College in a Western States Football League game Saturday night at Tucson High School. The Aztecs dropped to 0-6 overall and 0-4 in the WSFL.
