Cats fall behind, then score 12 in firstarizona daily star

After a rough start, the Arizona Wildcats softball team rebounded to defeat Arizona Western 16-2 in five innings in the Arizona Fall Classic on Friday night.
Lindsey Sisk retired the first two Western batters in the first inning when two errors, a wild pitch, a walk and a base hit scored two runs.
But in the bottom half, the first seven Wildcat batters tallied hits as the UA batted around twice to open a 12-2 lead.
Jenae Leles drove home Lauren Schutzler and Brittany Lastrapes with a single. The Wildcats then got RBI singles from Sam Banister, Laine Roth, K'Lee Arredondo and Karissa Buchanan.
The UA scored four more on its second time through the order, with Leles, Banister, Roth and Arredondo tallying RBIs.
Banister and Roth each finished with three RBIs in the game.
Corinna Gonzalez added an RBI triple in the fourth.
Arizona will host New Mexico and Central Arizona in back-to-back games tonight. First pitch against the Lobos is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. at Hillenbrand Stadium.

Cats top Sun Devils in double overtime
For the first time in program history, the Arizona women's soccer team beat instate rival Arizona State 2-1 in double overtime Friday night in Tempe.
With 4:36 left in the second overtime, Renae Cuellar hit the goal post, only to have Karina Camacho rebound the shot for the game-winner.
The Cats improved to 8-4 overall. The Sun Devils dropped to 6-3-3.
In addition to the first victory over the Sun Devils, it also marked the UA program's 100th victory.
"This is a big win for us," UA coach Dan Tobias said. "We showed great persistent and poise. When we got down, we battled back."
In the 29th minute ASU's Carly Kallas scored the game's first goal on a header. UA forward London King tied the game in the 81st minute when she found the net after receiving a cross from midfielder Jacqueline Broussard.

No. 4 Stanford beats Wildcats in volleyball
● The Arizona volleyball team fell to No. 4 Stanford 3-0 Friday night in Stanford, Calif.
The scores were 25-22, 25-18 and 25-16. Tiffany Owens led Arizona with 12 kills. Brooke Buringrud recorded 11 kills.
● The Pima volleyball team beat visiting Mesa 3-1 Friday in an Arizona Community College Athletic Conference match. The scores were 25-13, 25-22, 21-25 and 25-17.
Caitlin Rand (Cienega) led the Aztecs with a team-high 20 kills.
● The Arizona Icecats opened their 30th season Friday night with a 5-3 loss to Robert Morris in West Chester, Pa. The American College Hockey Association tourney continues today and Sunday. The Icecats home opener is Nov. 7 against DePaul.
