Tucson, Arizona | Published: 10.04.2008
Coach Mike Candrea announced the Arizona Wildcats' 2009 schedule Friday. The UA will play host to 27 games on 19 dates, and will play 28 games on 22 dates away from Tucson.
Arizona will play at least one game against eight teams that finished in last year's final NFCA Top 25, and 15 teams that made the NCAA tourney last season.
The UA will open its season Feb. 6 in Tempe at the Kajikawa Classic by taking on five teams, including perennial national championship contender Northwestern, and a Nevada squad that beat the UA in the same tournament a year ago.
Other highlights include: the Wilson Tournament, hosted by South Florida; a midweek doubleheader with UTEP in Tucson; the Wildcat Invitational; and a visit to College Station, Texas, for a three-game set with 2008 WCWS runner-up Texas A&M.
The UA will open conference play at home with a three-game series against the Oregon schools on March 27.
A rare eight-game homestand will begin with the Wildcats taking on defending national champ Arizona State in a Friday-Saturday match April 10-11, followed by the Bay Area schools.
