Couches, pools, barbecues highlight Wildcats' bye weekArizona Daily Star

The Arizona Wildcats will hold a two-hour practice this morning before taking a weekend away from football.
"After that, I'm doing nothing," quarterback Willie Tuitama said with a smile. "Relax. Relax. Relax. That's the biggest thing."
The Wildcats' first bye week of the season is more than just a time to unwind. Many UA players and coaches will spend today and Sunday hanging out with friends, barbecuing and — yes — watching football.
Tackle Eben Britton said, "It's my favorite thing to do."
Arizona will take on Washington next Saturday at Arizona Stadium. The Wildcats have won three of their first four games, including a 31-10 victory over UCLA a week ago.
"I think this comes at a good time," wide receiver Mike Thomas said. "We're 3-1, we have a chance to kick back and reflect on the things we've done good and the things we've done bad, and try to get those straightened up so we can continue to strive to get to the place we want to be in the Pac-10."
In other words, rest is good. Here is what some Wildcats and their coach are up to over the break:
● Tuitama, running back Xavier Smith and linebacker Xavier Kelley will hold a "barbecue for the boys" at their campus-area apartment. Ribs and chicken are on the menu.
Team rules prohibit players from going to bars on weeknights during the season and the team insists players keep a low profile on weekends.
So Tuitama, Smith and Kelley are bringing the party to them.
"We're just going to have people over and stay out of trouble," Smith said. "We're just going to be a team this year."
● Thomas will hang out with his teammates and "just enjoy the environment" of a weekend without obligations. Thomas said he will watch a full slate of college and pro games on TV but will not be rooting for any particular team.
"I feel like we're all competing, so I'll just keep up with the other guys to see how they're doing," he said. "I'm a fan of the game."
● Defensive end Ricky Elmore will use the break to get a little studying done.
"I'll probably just be lazy, sit on the couch, do some homework and watch games all day," he said.
● Coach Mike Stoops will watch Oklahoma play TCU in a key nonconference game.
The Sooners — coached by Stoops' brother, Bob — are ranked No. 2 in the country. TCU is 24th.
"I'll watch with my family," he said.
● Britton will do some scouting, watching college games featuring some of the Cats' 2008 opponents.
"I want to watch guys that you might play against, see how they play, how fast they are off the ball and stuff like that," he said.
● Special teamer Orlando Vargas will hit the pool and try not to think about college football.
"I want to pull back a little bit," he said. "Other than that, I'm going to chill and watch some TV. Maybe we'll go to some parties and have some fun, but we'll probably just hang out by the pool a little bit. Let our bodies rest.
"We need this week off. It's a big thing."
