Floor of UA's new practice facility flooded by rainsStaff and wire reports
Tucson, Arizona | Published: 09.02.2008
Arizona's new basketball/volleyball practice facility suffered a setback Sunday night when about 4,000 square feet of maple flooring was flooded during a rainstorm.
UA facilities director Steve Kozachik said rain runoff crashed through a 4-foot berm between the building and Campbell Avenue, letting water and mud flood under the new building.
However, Kozachik said the wood tiles may be reusable after they dry out, and he said he is still aiming to meet the planned Oct. 15 completion date — just in time for the beginning of full-length men's and women's basketball practices.
The UA volleyball team also will use the building.
"I'm going to be looking for every opportunity to steal a day back here or there," Kozachik said. "We want to get this thing opened so all three of these teams can get in there."

Bruins rally late, beat Vols in OT
PASADENA, Calif. — Quarterback Kevin Craft sparked UCLA's offense to life in the second half Monday night, and Kai Forbath kicked a 42-yard field goal in overtime to lift the Bruins to a 27-24 victory over No. 18 Tennessee, making coach Rick Neuheisel's debut a winning one.
The underdog Bruins, who took the lead with 27 seconds left in regulation, were forced into overtime when the Volunteers' Daniel Lincoln kicked a 47-yard field goal as time expired.
But in the overtime, when neither the Bruins nor the Vols were able pick up a first down, Forbath made his kick and then Lincoln missed from 34 yards.
Craft, who threw four interceptions and totaled 66 yards in the opening half of his first game for UCLA, went 18 of 25 for 193 yards and one touchdown in the second half without an interception.
The touchdown was a 3-yarder to Ryan Moya that capped a 70-yard drive and gave the Bruins a 24-21 lead with 27 seconds left.

Hoops player picks UCLA over UA
Guard Tyler Lamb of Ontario, Calif., a Top 60 player in the class of 2010, has committed to UCLA over Arizona and several other schools, according to Scout.com and the Los Angeles Daily News.
Lamb attended the UA's advanced skills camp last month at McKale Center. He had also considered Washington, USC, Tennessee and California.
UCLA "is pretty much where he wanted to go to school all along," Lamb's father, Terry, told the Daily News. "It's close to home. It's a very good school and a very good basketball program."

Singh proves putter's worth in win
NORTON, Mass. — Vijay Singh made three long birdie putts and closed with an 8-under-par 63 to win the Deutsche Bank Championship on Monday for his second straight victory in the PGA Tour's playoff system, the FedEx Cup.
Singh, who has long struggled with the putter, convinced himself last week when he won The Barclays in a three-man playoff that he is the best putter in golf.
He rolled in a 35-foot birdie putt on the 13th hole to stretch his lead to three shots, then raised the belly putter like a trophy when he holed a 60-foot birdie putt on the next hole. He capped off his amazing run with a 35-foot birdie on the 17th hole.
Singh finished at 22-under 262. Mike Weir closed with a 71 to finish five shots behind.
