Opinion by Greg Hansen: Wildcats have big hopes for Golden

Cornerback might be a three- or four-year starter for UA, with an NFL career to follow

UA freshman cornerback Robert Golden was the first of the school's incoming freshmen to make an impact, battling for a starting spot from the first day of training camp.
Excluding Golden, who projects as a three- or four-year starter and future NFL player, here is one man's list of the UA's leading freshmen who will begin classes this week:
1. Nimrod Shapira Bar-Or, swimming. In the Beijing Olympics 200 freestyle semifinals, Bar-Or was in the same race with Michael Phelps. Bar-Or broke the Israeli record and is the only Israeli swimmer ever to reach an Olympic semifinal. He is expected to take a prominent place on Arizona's defending NCAA championship team.
2. Isabelle Boineau, women's golf. The top junior golfer among French girls, Boineau has been ranked as high as No. 3 among all European junior girls golfers.
3. Donn Roach and Joey Rickard, baseball. Teammates at Las Vegas Gorman High School, they won three consecutive state titles and are now playing in the American Legion World Series in North Carolina. A center fielder, Rickard led all high school players with 87 runs scored this year. Roach was 8-1 with a 1.72 ERA. His only loss was in a 2-1 game.
4. Lini Koria, softball. The UA's next middle-of-the-order power hitting, Koria, a catcher from San Pedro, Calif., completed her career with 45 homers, a California prep career record, and 174 RBIs, second all-time in the state.
5. Alyssa Anderson, swimming. The Bay Area distance swimmer made the finals of the U.S. Olympic trials in the 400 freestyle this summer and is expected to be a top points scorer for the defending NCAA champs.
6. Becca Cardenas, gymnastics. In her senior season at the Hawaii Mission Academy, Cardenas was a first team All-American at the USA Gymnastics Junior Olympics finals.
7. Jeff Withey, basketball. The 7-foot center from San Diego won't get much time to ease his way into the Wildcat lineup; he is projected as a first-game starter.
8. Matt Scott, football. Sooner or later, the mobile quarterback from SoCal is expected to be Arizona's franchise quarterback.
9. Dana Hutchinson, volleyball. The Orange County outside hitter led all high school volleyball players with 510 kills. Big future expected.
10. Malia Nahinu, women's basketball. Regarded as a Top 100 recruit from the San Francisco area, Nahinu has something — size, at 6 feet 5 inches — that new UA coach Niya Butts desperately needs.
