Upton's rehab stint on schedule despite pair of rainoutsArizona Daily Star

The Tucson Sidewinders games on Thursday and Friday were rained out, but that should not set Justin Upton's rehab assignment back too far.
The Arizona Diamondbacks right fielder already was scheduled to be off Friday when rain postponed Tucson's game against Colorado Springs. He returned to the lineup Saturday night and went 1 for 3 with a walk, a stolen base and two strikeouts against Portland at TEP.
"I've been getting more at-bats than expected in these first few games," said Upton, who is 7 for 17 during his rehab stint, counting his 1-for-2 performance in Thursday's rain-suspended game. "That's helped."
Upton is scheduled to be with Tucson through Friday. He has been sidelined since July 9 because of a strained oblique.
"I've been more and more comfortable," Upton said. "I haven't had any issues with my injury. Everything's been good.
"I've been out for so long. It's more of getting my timing down and getting to where my swing in the game is where it's supposed to be. It could be a couple more games. It's not my decision. They want me in shape to play every day."
Manager Bill Plummer said besides looking improved at the plate, Upton showed good speed running from first base to third on a throw earlier in the week.
"He hadn't done anything for almost a month. It's going to take a little time," Plummer said.
Luggage delay
Saturday night's game started 17 minutes after its scheduled time of 6p.m. after the Sidewinders' equipment arrived late to TEP. The equipment flew in on a separate flight from Colorado Springs and arrived at TEP around 4:45 p.m. Saturday.
The team arrived in Tucson around 11 a.m.
Owings in limbo
Sidewinders pitcher Micah Owings, who is part of the Diamondbacks' trade with the Cincinnati Reds for outfielder Adam Dunn, is rehabbing a stiff shoulder at the D-backs' minor-league complex in Tucson. He skipped his last start on Wednesday.
Owings was not in the Sidewinders clubhouse before Saturday's game, but he remains on the team's roster. Plummer said he had no information on when Owings will pitch next.
If Owings does not clear waivers, he will remain in the Diamondbacks' organization until the end of the season, then join the Reds.
Catcher Wilkin Castillo, the other minor-leaguer in the Dunn trade, cleared waivers and was sent to the Reds on Thursday. Castillo saw time at catcher, third base, second, short and the outfield, and hit .254 for Tucson.
