Tucson, Arizona | Published: 08.17.2008
Tucson resident Kayla Bonstrom pitched a complete game and keyed a late-inning rally to help the Pusch Ridge Little League team from Oro Valley win the Junior Softball World Series on Saturday in Kirkland, Wash.
Bonstrom's two-run double was part of a six-run sixth inning that helped the Pusch Ridge all-stars — representing the U.S. West region — break open a 4-4 tie and beat Latin America 10-4.
The team from Puerto Rico was the JSWS defending champion and surged to an early 4-1 lead. But Bonstrom settled in and quieted its bats, and Pusch Ridge's offense scored nine consecutive runs to clinch the championship.
Bonstrom finished the game with three hits.
The game was aired live on ESPNU and will be replayed Aug. 28 at 2 p.m. on ESPN2.
