Fresh from being optioned by the Arizona Diamondbacks, Jamie D'Antona hit two home runs for the Sidewinders on Wednesday, but Tucson lost to Colorado Springs 12-5.
D'Antona, who entered the game second in the Pacific Coast League in batting average at .367, homered in the top of the second inning to give the Sidewinders a 1-0 lead. He hit his 19th home run of the season in the minor leagues in the eighth inning to cut the Sky Sox lead to 5-4.
D'Antona, a first and third baseman, had been with the Diamondbacks since July 22. He played in 12 games and had two hits in 11 at-bats. He was optioned to make room on the roster for Adam Dunn, whom the Diamondbacks acquired Monday.
The D-backs' Justin Upton played right field on a rehab assignment and had a double and a run-scoring single in the seventh.
But Colorado Springs scored seven runs in the eighth off Jailen Peguero. Only one of the runs was earned because D'Antona and shortstop Jesus Merchan committed errors.
A.J. Shappi (1-5) pitched 3 2/3 innings for Tucson and took the loss. He allowed seven hits and four runs, all earned, with two walks and two strikeouts.
Donnie Kelly had three hits for the Sidewinders.
