• Steroid paraphernalia turned over to federal investigators by the former trainer for Roger Clemens will test positive for the pitcher's DNA, according to a court filing by the trainer's lawyers. "Once the DNA results are revealed, there will be little dispute about who is telling the truth," according to the brief filed Thursday by attorneys for Brian McNamee. The brief is the latest efforts to dismiss Clemens' defamation lawsuit against McNamee or move it to New York from a Texas court. McNamee, Clemens' former trainer, testified under oath before the U.S. Congress in February that he injected Clemens with steroids and human growth hormone.

• Indians prospect Asdrubal Cabrera was fined an undisclosed amount but played for Triple-A Buffalo on Thursday, one night after throwing his helmet and raising his bat toward plate umpire Jason Klein while being ejected. Cabrera went 1 for 6 in a 13-inning loss to the Rochester Red Wings. He was fined by the International League.
• Red Sox left-handed pitcher Jon Lester leads the major leagues with 19 games started; 31 other pitchers have logged 18 starts.
• Brad Rock of the Deseret News, on the Baltimore Orioles' 12-game losing streak in Sunday games: "Perhaps they'd do well to take Ernie Banks' advice and play two — on Saturday."
