● Orioles 12, Yankees 2: In New York, Adam Jones hit a three-run double during Baltimore's seven-run first inning against the Yankees' Mike Mussina (6-4). The Orioles took advantage of a two-out throwing error by Derek Jeter in the first to build a big cushion for Daniel Cabrera (5-1), who handed the Yankees their fourth straight loss.
● Red Sox 2, Royals 1: In Boston, rookie Justin Masterson allowed one run on three hits in 6 1/3 innings as the Red Sox topped the Royals. Jonathan Papelbon ended a bases-loaded threat in the eighth by striking out Billy Butler. He also pitched a perfect ninth inning for his 13th save in 15 opportunities.
● Twins 11, Rangers 4: In Minneapolis, Glen Perkins pitched six scoreless innings against the Rangers for his first major league win. Texas lost its third in a row as starter Doug Mathis (1-1) gave up nine runs in 2 1/3 innings.
● Angels 3, Blue Jays 1: In Toronto, John Lackey gave up a leadoff homer to Toronto's Brad Wilkerson in the first, then blanked the Blue Jays the rest of the way for his first win since Sept. 28.
● Tigers 12, Mariners 8: In Detroit, Edgar Renteria hit one of the Tigers' four homers and matched a career high with five RBIs. Justin Verlander struck out a season-high seven in the victory over Seattle.
● Rays 3, Athletics 2: In Oakland, Calif., A's left fielder Emil Brown tried to make a sliding catch on Dioner Navarro's sinking liner in the eighth inning. The ball got past him for a three-run error.
