• Red Sox manager Terry Francona left the team and will miss the first two games of his team's series in Baltimore after the death of his mother-in-law. Mary Ann Lang, mother of Francona's wife, Jacque, died Monday night in Tucson. Francona and his family traveled to Tucson on Tuesday. Bench coach Brad Mills, a former teammate of Francona's at the UA, will run the Red Sox in Francona's absence.
• Joba Chamberlain and Hall of Famer Rich "Goose" Gossage spoke on the phone Tuesday, one day after the former closer took issue with some of the rookie right-hander's antics on the field, including fist-pumping after a strikeout.
"He called me and he said what he said," Chamberlain said before Tuesday night's game against Tampa Bay. "I am not going to change."
Gossage told reporters Monday "there was no place in the game" for some of his antics.
• DH Milton Bradley was out of the Rangers' starting lineup against the Mariners on Tuesday night because of a sore right shoulder. Bradley was removed in the seventh inning of Monday night's game against the Mariners. Manager Ron Washington said Bradley would also sit out today's game against Seattle.
• Asdrubal Cabrera showed venerable Hall of Famer Bob Feller something new. When the Indians' young infielder turned the 14th unassisted triple play in major-league history Monday, it was something the 89-year-old Feller had not seen since he was an Iowa farmboy. "It was a great play," the always outspoken Feller continued, "but unassisted triple plays are two things: luck and dumb base running."
