• Former Arizona Wildcats All-American Annika Sorenstam might have found herself a post- retirement job — pitcher. Sorenstam threw out the ceremonial first pitch for the Mets on Tuesday night, several hours after she announced she was going to retire from pro golf at the end of the year.
Sorenstam, 37, wearing a white Mets home jersey with the No. 59 and "Annika" on the back, stood near the New York dugout during several pre-game activities, holding a ball in her right hand and doing windmills to get loose. Throwing from the rubber, Sorenstam's pitch bounced in the right-handed batter's box about equal with the plate.
