Tucson, Arizona | Published: 05.13.2008
LAKE FOREST, Ill. — Robbie Gould became the highest paid kicker, agreeing to a five-year, $15.5 million contract extension with the Chicago Bears that includes a $4.25 million signing bonus on Monday.
The deal runs through 2013.
"I'm excited about the contract I signed," Gould, who had a year left on his contract, said during a conference call with reporters. "I'm excited to be a Bear. … This is definitely a win-win on both ends."
Gould has made 84 of 99 field goal attempts and 99 of 100 PATs with the Bears. He hit 31 of 36 field-goal attempts last season and made the Pro Bowl after the 2006 season, when he scored 143 points.

Guard Marie McGee is leaving the Arizona Wildcats women's basketball program but will remain at the school to earn her degree, coach Niya Butts announced Monday.
McGee, who averaged 4.0 points and 2.2 rebounds last season as a sophomore, missed nine of the Wildcats' final 10 games because of a concussion.
Butts said McGee will retain her scholarship.

● Arizona football player Blake Kerley has been named to the watch list for the Rimington Trophy, given to the nation's top center. Kerley, a junior, is one of 42 players named to the list, which includes six players from the Pac-10 — including USC's Kris O'Dowd, a Salpointe Catholic product.
Kerley has started 24 consecutive games since cracking the lineup as a redshirt freshman in 2006. He and tackle Eben Britton are expected to anchor an offensive line that is expected to be one of the Wildcats' strengths in 2008.

Death penalty waived in Taylor murder trial
MIAMI — Prosecutors said Monday they will not seek the death penalty against four people charged with murdering Redskins safety Sean Taylor because the accused shooter was a minor when the crime was committed.
The U.S. Supreme Court has ruled that people cannot be executed for crimes committed when they're under 18, and it's a well-established legal principle that others charged in the same case as a minor cannot face the ultimate penalty if they are less directly responsible.
