A second member of the Sidewinders' championship staff will not return next season.
Lorenzo Bundy, the team's hitting coach for the past three seasons, formally was announced as the new manager of the Pacific Coast League's Las Vegas 51s on Wednesday.
Earlier this month, Sidewinders manager Chip Hale was promoted to be the third base coach of the Arizona Diamondbacks.
"In Triple-A baseball, you get used to seeing guys chase their dreams," Sidewinders owner Jay Zucker said. "I think that's kinda what makes this business so exciting. Lo, in many ways, is making it big as the manager of a Triple-A team.
"I'm very excited for him. Selfishly, we're sad to lose him."
The switch satisfies Bundy's desire to return to managing.
Bundy, who last managed in the United States in 1997, was the Sidewinders' interim skipper at the beginning of last season. When Hale replaced injured third base coach Carlos Tosca in Phoenix for most of April, Bundy led the Sidewinders to a 13-12 record. Bundy also was 2-0 in July when Hale coached in the Futures Game.
"This was something I was hoping to achieve, and when the Dodgers called me, it was an opportunity I couldn't say no to," Bundy said in a news release.
The hire is hardly a surprise to Sidewinders insiders. Bill Plummer, who was named the team's manager on Tuesday, knew Bundy was likely going to get the 51s job.
Bundy, 47, currently is managing the Hermosillo Naranjeros of the Mexican Winter League. He has managed in the Mexican league for the past 15 years, winning the title with Navojoa in 2000 and twice was named manager of the year.
Bundy managed five teams at the Single-A level from 1990 to 1997, compiling a 357-397 record.
The James Madison University career home run leader was the Florida Marlins' outfield and base running coach in 1998, and the Colorado Rockies' bullpen coach in 1999.
When former Sidewinders manager Al Pedrique was promoted to the Diamondbacks in 2004, Bundy became the big- league club's bench coach.
