The 82nd annual La Fiesta de los Vaqueros parade starts at 9 a.m. today.
It's a tradition: The long — some say the world's longest — nonmotorized parade boasts a lineup that hasn't changed much since it started in 1925: lots of horses, marching bands, folklorico dancers, beauty queens ... and did we mention the horses?
Where to watch: Grandstands for viewing are on East Irvington Road at South Sixth Avenue — near the Tucson Rodeo Grounds. Grandstand tickets are $6 adults and $4 kids age 12 or younger. Viewing along both sides of the route is available at no charge (savvy parade-watchers arrive at least 90 minutes ahead of time to secure a spot).
Another option: The parade will be televised live on KOLD, Channel 13.
Catch a ride: Sun Tran is running round-trip shuttles to the parade from 7 to 9 a.m. that will pick you up at the Park Place and Tucson malls and deliver you to the Tucson Rodeo Grounds. The round-trip fare is $1, or 50 cents for seniors or the disabled. Children 5 and younger ride for free.
Who's who: Former U.S. Surgeon General Richard Carmona, Tucson's pioneering trauma doctor, is this year's grand marshal.
