Jason Jonilonis said Wednesday that he is no longer Fire Restaurant and Bar's chef and consultant.
"All I can say is that I'm no longer involved with the restaurant," Jonilonis said. "I appreciate and thank all the support from the community. You'll see me again soon."
A review of Fire ran in Wednesday's Accent section.
"We came to a mutual agreement that things weren't working out and it would be in Fire's best interests to promote Erik Savin to executive chef," said managing partner Jim Bradley by phone from San Diego. Bradley is also a full-time San Diego police officer.
Savin, 38, was the Marana restaurant's previous sous chef under Jonilonis. The menu, which offers pizzas, pastas and salads, has not changed.
"I just know that Jason decided to go a different direction," said Cyndy Neighbors, owner of Many Hats Advertising Ltd., the advertising agency for Fire. "It kind of took me by surprise."
At Fire's Web site, fireaz.net, Jonilonis' picture has been removed. The site, which says "coming soon," still is not fully up and running.
Fire, 12130 N. Dove Mountain Blvd., opened on Feb. 16.
