Gabrielle Giffords, Democrat
Giffords, the incumbent, continued her strong fundraising track, bringing in $230,000 in this latest six-week reporting period. The first-term Democrat is just $300,000 short of her $3 million goal for this election — making her one of the most prolific fundraisers among congressional freshmen.
Giffords has spent about 20 percent of her funds, leaving her with more than $2 million to defend her seat in Republican-leaning Congressional District 8. Her recent television ad was launched just after the end of the cycle.

Tim Bee, Republican
Bee's July fundraiser featuring President Bush brought him flak from Democrats, but it earned him more money than Giffords this reporting cycle — a first for his campaign to win District 8. The Bee campaign was pushing the midnight deadline Thursday to file its official report, but supplied approximate figures to the Star. The Bush event brought in a total of $595,000 — $480,000 of which when to Bee's campaign. About $180,000 of the money was included in the last report, the campaign says, and there were $100,000 in expenses to bring Air Force One into town and host the Foothills fundraiser.
When it comes to cash on hand, Bee lags behind Giffords by more than a 3-to-1 ratio, but he's shown himself to be a more successful fundraiser than any of the Republican candidates in this district were back in 2006, when Giffords claimed the seat.
