A list of the new Seven Wonders of the World will be announced on July 7 — and we'd like you to help us select a corresponding list: the Seven Wonders of Southern Arizona.

While the world wonders are being chosen by an international vote, you're invited to vote online for worthy sites in our area.

The wonders under consideration here aren't natural wonders — they're human creations such as buildings, grand highways and archaeological sites.

We've posted a list of 20 candidate sites on the voting Web site for your consideration. They include historic buildings such as Mission San Xavier del Bac, modern structures including the Meinel Optical Sciences Building at the University of Arizona, and ancient treasures such as the Picture Rocks petroglyphs.
