SEDONA - Folks evacuated yesterday after a wildfire raced through an upscale subdivision near Sedona, Arizona, are going to have to spend at least another night away from their homes.
The La Barranca fire -- which has grown to 15-hundred acres -- moved into a wilderness area after skirting the subdivision yesterday.
However, fire officials say it still isn't safe for the residents of some 30 homes that were evacuated yesterday to go back. Those residents were escorted into the area today to pick up valuables and medication, but then had to leave again.
Fire officials said today that the La Barranca fire destroyed one home and damaged a second after breaking out yesterday afternoon in the Village of Oak Creek south of Sedona. Some outbuildings also were destroyed.
However, the rest of the more than 200 homes in the upscale Pine Valley subdivision were saved.
Sparks from a grinder used by crews from a fencing company are being blamed for starting the fire.
