The days are longer, the temperatures are soaring and the pollen is in the air.

It's that time of year again - time for the spring Club Crawl.

The Tucson Weekly-sponsored Crawl is bringing more than 75 bands together Saturday to fill Tucson's diverse musical appetite for blues, Americana, country, rock, Tejano and folk music.

Eight outdoor stages will showcase bands under the stars, while various nearby venues will host more music inside. East Congress Street will be closed between East Broadway and North Sixth Avenue to accommodate the outdoor stages.

Gates open at 7 p.m. Saturday, and the music starts on most stages at 8 p.m. Wristbands are $8 in advance, $10 the day of the show.

The Club Crawl is also offering a first glimpse at the new and improved 85-year-old Rialto Theatre, 318 E. Congress St., which has been closed since 2004.

By Saturday, the first phase of the Rialto's renovation should be done, programming director Curtis McCrary said. There will be cosmetic improvements (new paint and lighting), safety upgrades (electrical work and new exit lights and doors), acoustic improvements (a new public-address system, raised speakers and sound-absorbing tiles), and general conveniences (new bars and more and upgraded bathrooms).

There is still plenty of work to be done - putting in air conditioning, tiering the floors, upgrading the exterior, installing a spring-loaded wooden dance floor, upgrading the balcony seating, giving the ceiling an aesthetic treatment, and installing the new $100,000 marquee. The official grand-reopening celebration is being planned for June, when the restoration should be complete, McCrary said.

In the meantime, the Rialto is booking concerts through the summer and it will host an indoor and outdoor stage at the Club Crawl.

"From the outside, it won't look any different on April 16," McCrary said, "but on the inside, it'll look like a totally new place"
