TODAY

American Hot Rod - In the spirit of "American Chopper," this new series follows designer Boyd Coddington and his staff as they conceptualize, design and build three "next generation" hot rods. The first involves the conversion of a rusting 1956 Chevrolet Bel Air into the formidable "Junkyard Dog." 11 p.m. on the Discovery Channel

SATURDAY

* A Bug's Life - A misfit ant named Flik (voice of Dave Foley) tries to rally his cohorts against the evil grasshoppers that dominate them. The voice cast also includes Kevin Spacey, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Phyllis Diller and David Hyde Pierce. 7 p.m. on ABC

* Austin City Limits - Rodney Crowell, long successful as a country songwriter, seems to have taken renewed interest in performing; he says it's only recently that he "really found it" as a singer. He'll be preceded tonight by Keith Urban, one of the newer stars of "contemporary country." 11 p.m. on PBS

SUNDAY

* CBS News Sunday Morning - For all the talk of the cable-news wars, some broadcast institutions have survived without a lot of fanfare or change. "Sunday Morning" is celebrating its 25th anniversary today. One sign of stability is the tenure of anchor Charles Osgood, who has been in the job since the death of original anchor Charles Kuralt in 1997.

8 a.m. on CBS

* Die Another Day - The latest in the James Bond series makes its way to cable. The 2002 movie, Pierce Brosnan's fourth as 007, generally didn't excite the critics, but some viewers may consider the presence of costar Halle Berry a plus. Brosnan will try again in a Bond film tentatively scheduled for next year. 8:45 p.m. on Showtime

* Targeted - A new documentary looks at the worldwide hunt for terrorists, war criminals and renegade rulers. Concludes at the same time tomorrow. 9 p.m. on the History Channel

* Strong Medicine - Grant Show guest-stars in the first of three episodes as a benefactor who wants to make a documentary about the show's fictional Philadelphia hospital. But is he really who he says he is? Dr. Delgado (Rosa Blasi) seems to have a special interest in that question. 11 p.m. on Lifetime

MONDAY

* Dennis Miller - Starting this week, Miller gets to make fun of the news every night, not just once a week as he used to do on "Saturday Night Live." More precisely, this new talk show combines his "comedic take on serious issues" with guest experts and panel discussions. 7 and 10 p.m. on CNBC

* Traffic: The Miniseries - Inspired by the film and the British series of the same name, this "Traffic" offers new characters and a new story of illegal trafficking in drugs, weapons and humans. The cast is led by Cliff Curtis, Martin Donovan, Balthazar Getty, Elias Koteas and Mary McCormack. Continues at the same time Tuesday and Wednesday. 10 p.m. on USA

* The Wild Ride to Super Bowl I - XXXVII years ago, the Green Bay Packers of the NFL and the Kansas City Chiefs of the upstart American Football League met in what was called the NFL-AFL World Championship Game. The Packers won easily, 35-10, and nobody imagined just how big such a game would become. It was played at the Los Angeles Coliseum, which wasn't sold out, and so the TV coverage was blacked out in the area. The winning coach? A guy named Vince Lombardi. 11 p.m. on HBO

TUESDAY

* Shelter Dogs - This program reports that an estimated five million unwanted dogs wind up in U.S. shelters each year, and only about 25 percent of them are adopted. Though many people believe that the "leftover" dogs should not be killed, the canines tend to suffer mental deterioration if they are kept in cages. Part of the "America Undercover" documentary series. 8:30 p.m. on HBO

WEDNESDAY

* Todd TV - After being introduced last week, 30-year-old Todd Santos must conduct his life according to viewer votes on "major life decisions." Whether his life is changed for the better, of course, remains to be seen - no doubt he's agreed not to sue if things don't work out all that well. 11 p.m. on FX

* Stir of Echoes - Unsettled by hypnosis that he underwent for no good reason, a family man (Kevin Bacon) starts to see violent images and the ghost of a young woman. In the hope of ending the troubling visions, he sets out on a dangerous search for her body. Kathryn Erbe and Kevin Dunn also star in this 1999 thriller. 8 p.m. on TNT

THURSDAY

* Marvin Anderson's Nightmare - The Innocence Project, founded by lawyers Barry Scheck and Peter Neufeld, has helped dozens of wrongly convicted people get out of jail through DNA testing. This program, the first of a series, looks at one of them - Marvin Anderson, a Virginia man who spent 15 years in prison for a crime he did not commit. 9 p.m. on Court TV

NEXT FRIDAY

* The Cell - Jennifer Lopez stars as a psychologist who uses an experimental process to enter the minds of comatose patients. Things get really interesting when she's asked to pull the trick on an extremely creepy serial killer (Vincent D'Onofrio). 7 p.m. on UPN
