Sin City wants you!
Twelve thousand of you.
City Center — the new Las Vegas mega casino, shopping and residence complex — is tapping Tucson and other regional markets to find up to 12,000 workers for jobs starting this fall.
The city-within-a-city's hiring Web site, www.citycenter careers.com, will begin accepting applications nationwide Jan. 5, with interviews beginning in February for jobs starting from September through next December, according to a company spokeswoman.
The bulk of the new hires will be for Aria Resort & Casino, City Center's 4,000-room centerpiece.
City Center, a joint venture of MGM Mirage and Infinity World Development Corp., also will be hiring for Crystals, a retail center. Positions run the gamut, from housekeeping jobs to management posts.
Hiring workers across state lines isn't uncommon, said Murney Brown, a Pima County work-force-development information specialist.
She said the county's One-Stop Employment Center at Kino Service Center, 2797 E. Ajo Way, is sometimes used by employers to interview or test potential employees.
Brown said an Alaskan company was recently at the employment center to hire crew members for fishing trawlers, and an out-of-state chicken-processing company also hired here.
