BREAKING NEWS: OV group urges boycott of center if it includes a Wal-Mart
ARIZONA DAILY STAR
The citizens' group Oro Valley First is asking people to pledge that they will not shop at Oro Valley Marketplace if the giant retail center includes a Wal-Mart.
In January, developer Vestar Development Co. announced that a Wal-Mart Supercenter will be among the center's tenants.
Oro Valley First's goal is for the pledges it is collecting to persuade Vestar to replace the Wal-Mart with two smaller stores.
For more information on the citizen's group or to sign a pledge online, go to the group's Web site, http://www.ov1st.com.
Oro Valley Marketplace is expected to open in fall 2008 and encompass 114 acres on the southwest corner of Tangerine and North Oracle roads. Its other tenants will include a 12-screen movie theater, Best Buy, Petco and Olive Garden Italian Restaurant, among other retailers and restaurants.
