Arizona Shorts: Rattlers end three-game losing streak

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -
Randy Gatewood caught two touchdown passes and returned a kickoff for another score in the Arizona Rattlers' 51-41 victory over winless Grand Rapids on Sunday.
Sherdrick Bonner passed for 168 yards and three TDs for the Rattlers (4-5).
Michael Bishop threw four TD passes for the Rampage (0-8).
Arizona ended its three-game losing skid, while Grand Rapids lost for the 14th straight time dating to last season.
Following a sluggish first quarter in which the Rattlers could only eke out a field goal for a 3-0 lead, they scored a pair of touchdowns early in the second quarter to build a 17-0 advantage.
Grand Rapids rallied for two TDs to cut its deficit to three points before the Rattlers went ahead 24-14 at halftime.
Arizona blew the game open in the second half and led by as many as 23.
The Rattlers return to Phoenix for a two-game homestand, which begins Saturday against Las Vegas.
CLUB RUGBY
Arizona ends season with tourney title
The UA rugby team defeated Texas Tech and Rice on Sunday to win the Austin Invitational in Austin, Texas.
After beating Texas Tech 29-3 in the semifinals behind
Marcus Johnson's three tries, the Wildcats routed Rice 48-5 in the championship. In the final match, six Wildcats scored tries:
Garrett Carr,
Mark Dallow,
Ryan Tovani,
Paul Robinson,
Ross Hammond and
Steve Rajakovich.
The UA concluded its season with a 12-5 record.

Wildcats, Blasberg place 6th in Tempe
Arizona shot a 26-over-par 890 to finish sixth Sunday in the PING/ASU Invitational in Tempe. The Wildcats were 29 strokes off the pace of tournament champion UCLA (861).
Wildcat sophomore
Erica Blasberg ended the three-round event with a 3-over 75 to place sixth in the individual competition. For the tournament, she shot a 1-over 217.
° The UA's 21st-ranked men's tennis team saw its four-match winning streak come to an end Sunday at the hands of No. 19 Washington in Seattle. The Huskies beat the Wildcats 6-1.
The UA fell to 12-7 overall and 1-3 in the Pac-10.
RUNNING
Race for the Cure urging participants
Organizers for the sixth annual Race for the Cure are urging participants to register sooner rather than later for the year's April 18 event.
Organizers say registration has been slow, and they fear a late rush could tax the volunteers who handle registration.
The event put on by the The Komen Foundation Southern Arizona Affiliate honors breast cancer survivors and raises funds for breast cancer research and support services.
