After the Flowing Wells girls' 9-0 first-round win over Phoenix Central on Wednesday, coach Terri Swaney made sure her team knew there was plenty to work on before Saturday's Class 5A-II quarterfinal.
The difficulty level is sure to increase when Flowing Wells faces Mesa Desert Ridge at Tempe Sports Complex at 6 p.m. Saturday.
Before that game, Swaney will have her squad work diligently on connecting passes, communicating on the field and keeping the ball out of the air.
"Maybe I'm a little too critical," Swaney said. "They are playing great ball, don't get me wrong. I just want them to continue doing that and not slack."
Lexi Vallery hardly slacked off during Wednesday's game. She scored 37 seconds into the game after receiving the ball from Tara Erdmann. She scored again at the 3-minute mark.
Erdmann made it 3-0 with a goal two minutes later, and Skye Schultz tacked on the next three goals to put the Caballeros up 6-0 at halftime.

"It took us a half to adjust to what playoff soccer is like," said Rick Ellis, coach of the youth-laden Mountain Lions. "This was a tough way to lose."
