Having played Catalina Foothills twice before, Nogales coach Hector Luna knew his team's opportunities would be limited.
Nogales took advantage of one of its few opportunities when Ramon Miranda scored on a free kick from 30 yards in the 18th minute to give the Apaches a 1-0 victory and the Class 4A-I Kino Region title.
"Ramon is a free-kick master. He has scored so many goals for us this year on free kicks," Luna said.
"He just has a nose for the goal."
Catalina Foothills appeared to tie the game in the 74th minute when Clay Campbell nailed a shot. However, the score was negated when Foothills was ruled offside.
