The last time Justine Godoy of Douglas faced off against Palo Verde, Godoy left the game with a broken wrist, and the Bulldogs finished with a loss.
This time around, Godoy and her teammates were able to bask in a 2-1 victory over the Titans in the 4A-II Gila Regional championship game Thursday at Desert View.
"It feels so good to win," Godoy said. "I am so proud to be going to state."
The Bulldogs earned their region's No. 1 seed in the 4A-II state tournament with the win, and potentially could host a first-round game.
"There is a possibility we might host," Douglas coach Angelica Chavez said. "That is a first. We never hosted a state game before."
Despite being outshot by the Titans, the Bulldogs managed to drain early shots.
Douglas scored after two minutes of play when Lelani Morales made Palo Verde's defense pay for a mental lapse.

● Salpointe Catholic 1, Tucson 0: At Salpointe, Tucson proved to be worthy of its No. 2 seeding, but its effort was not enough as Salpointe advanced to today's regional final.
The Lancers will play top seed Flowing Wells at Salpointe at 4 p.m.
While many were looking ahead to a Flowing Wells-Salpointe title match, Lancers coach Dave Peron felt Tucson was underrated and should not be overlooked.
"Exactly what I expected," Peron said. "Tucson High is a very, very good team. They have a very solid defense, and in all phases of the game, is a very underrated team."
Thursday night was no different. Neither team seemed to gain a considerable edge throughout the game.
The Lancers, however, were able to score in the 52nd minute when Becky Barry's free kick hit the top right post, and Kristin Preble was there to put it in.
The key to Salpointe's victory was the play of its defense.
The Lancers defense was able to control Tucson forward Tanisha Kendrick.
