After losing the majority of his team to graduation, Tucson coach Ismael Arce can feel comfortable knowing he still has senior Polo Villaseñor.
Villaseñor scored two goals in the second half Monday as Tucson beat Flowing Wells 3-1 in the first round of the 5A Southern Regional tournament at Salpointe Catholic.
"We know what Polo can do," Arce said.
"Polo's probably one of the best players in the city."
Tucson's best defense was its offense, as the Badgers (9-13) kept the ball in Flowing Wells territory throughout the night.
"I knew since the beginning of the game that it was just a matter of time," he said.
Villaseñor scored the first goal in the 62nd minute, when he got behind the Caballeros' defense.
Flowing Wells (4-15) answered four minutes later with a Nathan Harbison kick that tied the game at 1.
In the 73rd minute, Villaseñor slipped behind the defense again and easily scored the go-ahead goal. With the win, Tucson will play Salpointe Catholic on Wednesday.

Rincon/University (9-6) outshot the Nighthawks 18-11. Rangers goalkeeper Cailyn Briggs finished with nine saves.
Rincon will take on No. 2 Sabino in the second round on Wednesday at 6 p.m.

● Palo Verde 3, Santa Rita 1: At Desert View, the Titans' relentless pursuit on offense earned them a match against Rio Rico tonight at 6 in the regional tournament.
As the second seed, Rio Rico has a bye.
Palo Verde was the first to score after Cody Hunter threaded the ball to Mario Velazquez in the first half.
Santa Rita (3-11) countered with a goal of its own 13 minutes later when Jose Gomez made a mess of all the commotion at the net to score.
The Titans (6-10-2) cemented the win when Jeran Cooke broke free to score an unassisted goal late in the first half.
