PHOENIX — A new poll shows Republican presidential candidate Sen. John McCain’s lead over Democratic rival Sen. Barack Obama has decreased in Maricopa County.
The Rocky Mountain Poll released Thursday shows the Arizona senator’s lead slipping to 5 percent in July from 15 percent in May in Arizona’s most populous county.
McCain had the support of 53 percent of county voters in May and 43 percent in the latest poll.
Obama’s support remained at 38 percent in both polls. The number of uncommitted voters increased from 9 percent to 16 percent. Independent Ralph Nader’s support was at 3 percent.
The telephone poll of 401 voters conducted between July 18 and July 24 has a statistical margin of error of plus or minus 5 percentage points.
