Arizona District 25 is being well-served in the State Senate by incumbent Marsha Arzberger, whose priorities — the state budget, education, health care and water issues — are a good fit for her district and our state. We endorse her return to the Legislature.

Arzberger, a Democrat, is running against Republican Mary Ann Black.

Arzberger brings a valuable perspective to the Legislature from her experience the Arizona Board of Regents, which oversees the university system, and from operating the family's farm and ranch with her husband near Willcox.

Arzberger understands water policy. As a farmer and rancher, she sees firsthand how water policy affects agriculture. She serves on the Statewide Water Advisory Group with the Arizona Department of Water Resources and is an advisory board member to the Arizona Water Institute, a consortium of the state's public universities on water policy in arid regions. She has also served on the Senate Study Committee on Rural Water.

"Not many legislators know much about water," she told the Star's editorial board.

She knows access to health care, especially in rural areas, is a vital need. She's an advocate for education and understands how policies that make sense in city schools don't always fit in rural schools. Arzberger's opposition to large tax cuts when the state has a budget surplus is wise because such good fortune doesn't always last.

Our state needs advocates who understand the dynamics of rural Arizona in the Senate. Marsha Arzberger deserves another term.
