BASIS middle and high schools have just recently won a big honor. Last year, Robert Compton came to the schools and filmed students and teachers. This year, he made a movie about the schools, which showed at the Fox Theatre on Oct. 1.
This was the first showing of the movie, ever. The movie was called "2 Million Minutes." The name comes from the time you spend in high school.
But this isn't Compton's first movie about BASIS schools. Also this year, former Speaker of the House and political analyst Newt Gingrich and civil rights activist the Rev. Al Sharpton came to BASIS middle school with a film crew and filmed. Later that day, BASIS middle was on KOLD-TV newscasts. Gingrich and Sharpton were at BASIS because they are trying to improve learning and teaching at different schools and were using BASIS as a model for improving our education system.
